The BAKER ™ XL6 is a six-speed overdrive ‘cartridge style’ gearset
that converts any existing 1991-2003 sportster/buell to a BAKER ™
six speed. 2nd through 5th gear ratios are effectively the same as
stock, 6th gear is a true overdrive.
Convert your existing 91-up 5-speed or BAKER XL6 to reverse pattern shifting. our 1-up, 4-down or 1-up, 5-down shift drum kits give lightning fast upshifts, something racers have known for years. Kits include a drum, billet detent late, and low effort spring.
P/N 291-6 is a no cost option with purchase of a 201,202, or 203 XL6 kit; add an ‘r’ to the part number.

520 CONVERSION KITS
Convert the stock secondary belt drive to a 520 chain with this kit. Best suited for racing and optimal performance situations. As compared to the 530 chain size, long-term durability is compromised for reduced mass and less power loss (reduced friction). 520 chains have a pitch of 5/8” and a roller width of 1/4”.
Stock Sportster/Buell transmission pulleys are made of cast iron in 27 and 29 tooth configurations. Replace your stock 27 tooth pulley with our 26 for an instant 4% increase in torque to the rear wheel.
In addition to 4% more torque to the rear wheel, our pulleys are lighter and stronger than stock. Less weight translates to reduced ‘flywheel effect’ and quicker revs. weight comparison:
Install one of these pulleys with our XL6 to significantly increase the performance of your Sportster/Buell and reduce the cruising rpm.
The name describes it well. The 26 and 28 tooth race pulley is designed for performance only. The extreme weight savings of this design greatly reduces the flywheel effect over the stock cast iron pulley. The race pulley is two pounds (not a typo) lighter than the stock 2.875lb. unit for extremely quick revving. Hard anodized for wear resistance and corrosion protection.
Our smooth shift kit greatly improves the shift smoothness and the ability to find neutral in 91-up 5-speeds. Kit includes a BAKER 5-speed drum with optimized fork pin groove geometries, billet detent plate, and low effort spring. No more flimsy retaining clip to secure the detent plate to the drum; Ours is bolted on with a machine screw.
If you are doing any serious performance upgrades to your engine, don’t forget about your transmission. Our 6061-t6 trap door is three times stronger than the stock die-cast door in the critical area in-between and around the mainshaft and countershaft door bearings. Our transmission design expertise makes our 5-speed door the best trap door available, period.
